The Story Behind Ubuntu Luxury Villa: From a Dream to a Place We Call Home

When guests arrive at Ubuntu Luxury Villa, they often comment on the peaceful atmosphere, the thoughtful design, and the feeling that this is so much more than just another holiday home. What many don't know is that, in the beginning, it really was our home.
Our journey with Ubuntu Luxury Villa began in 2018 with a dream that had been growing for years. After working together in the hospitality and tourism industry for decades and photographing luxury hotels, safari lodges and resorts around the world since 2015, we had developed a clear vision of what made a stay truly memorable.
Hospitality photographers and international travelers
As professional hospitality photographers, we had the privilege of experiencing some of the most beautiful properties across Europe, the Caribbean and South Africa. We noticed that the places guests remembered most weren't necessarily the most extravagant—they were the ones that made people feel comfortable, connected to nature and completely at ease.
When we decided to build our own villa in Hoedspruit, we wanted to create exactly that feeling.
Every decision was made with future guests in mind. From the spacious outdoor living area and private pool to the open-plan layout and seamless connection between indoors and the surrounding bush, Ubuntu Luxury Villa was designed as a place where life naturally slows down.
Before Ubuntu became a holiday home
Construction started in October 2018, and after months of planning, designing and watching our vision become reality, Ubuntu Luxury Villa welcomed its first guests at the end of 2019.
But before it became the holiday home so many travellers have come to love, it was our own retreat whenever we were in South Africa.
Whenever we stayed in Hoedspruit, this was where we lived. Mornings often began with a breakfast and a cup of tea on the patio while listening to birdsong and watching wildlife wander past. Warm afternoons were spent beside the pool, on the viewing deck with a sundowner drink at hand and evenings ended around the braai or with a glass of wine beneath a sky filled with stars. We enjoyed many special moments with friends and family, from having our very first sundowner on the viewing deck to the first braai and a very special Family Trip where both our parents, brother and sister in law and our niece visited for the first time. Those memories remain some of our favorites.
Looking back at photographs from those early days brings a smile to our faces. The styling has evolved over the years, we've added new details and refined the interiors, but the essence of Ubuntu Luxury Villa has never changed.
Ubuntu Luxury Villa feels like a home away from home
Ubuntu has always been a home before it became a destination.
That is something we hope every guest feels from the moment they walk through the front door.
One of the greatest compliments we receive is when guests tell us that they didn't want to leave, or that Ubuntu Luxury Villa felt like a home away from home. For us, there is no better confirmation that the vision we had all those years ago became reality.
Today, we feel incredibly grateful to share this special place with travellers from around the world. Every booking allows someone else to experience the tranquillity, wildlife and lifestyle that first made us fall in love with Hoedspruit.
As we look back at these early photographs taken in 2019, we're reminded that Ubuntu Luxury Villa has never simply been a place to stay.
It has always been a dream built with passion, shaped by our love for hospitality, photography and the African bush, and created to be shared.
